About Electrical Sub Panels
December 17th, 2011    Posted by George Trimarche |  Posted in Residential, Uncategorized | No Comments »

Timely and periodic electrical maintenance proves very helpful for continual and proper working of electrical equipment at home. In NJ electricians certified by electrical contractors association check all wiring, fuses and also the sub panels installed in buildings for thorough electrical maintenance.

Sub-panels are electrical panels, of a size smaller than the main service panel. These are used to extend a feed for multiple branch circuits to another area or building a considerable distance away from the main panel. A garage, or separate storage building can be the right place to put a sub-panel. The basic idea is to run a single set of feeder wires from the main panel, through a two-pole breaker, and extend them out to a sub-panel, which will then feed multiple branch circuits in that area of a house, garage, or out building. From that point, the sub panel connects to outlets, lighting and other loads via individual circuit breakers, just like the main panel in electrical supplies. In NJ electricians registered with electrical contractors services can install sub panels in residential we well as commercial buildings.

It can become quite costly to run each and every required circuit from one end of a house to the other and then to the main panel By placing a sub-panel in the area where a majority of the wiring exists, electricians cut down on the overall expense of the project, and when a breaker trips, there is no need to walk all the way to the other side of the building to reset it. Once a sub-panel is fed from the main service panel, it is ready to distribute its own power, but remains protected from the breaker in the main panel that it is connected to. Electrical maintenance also becomes easy if there is a sub panel in the building.

Sub-panels require two live wires connected to a double-pole breaker in the main panel. They also require a neutral and ground wire extended to the sub-panel. Although the neutral wire is bonded to the main panel, the sub panel is not bonded with a green bonding screw.

Preventive Electrical Maintenance is Important.
September 2nd, 2011    Posted by George Trimarche |  Posted in Uncategorized | No Comments »

The proper working of all electrical equipment and fittings in a commercial or industrial organization is integral to the safety of the workers and the building infrastructure as a whole. This is why regular electrical maintenance is so important.

A factory or industrial manufacturing unit may also be using expensive programmable logic controllers for various machines and these too need to be checked by a skilled electrical contractor. In USA, the commercial electricians who offer electrical maintenance services must ideally be registered with the electrical contractors association.

Preventive electrical maintenance services in an organization can help to:

Identify loose connections: Power fluctuations in the electrical devices and the erratic functioning of machines are often caused by loose connections. These also cause uneven load distribution between wires. With regular electrical maintenance, the loose connections are checked and rectified by an electrical contractor.

Check the working or emergency lighting, signage and power indicator displays: A commercial or industrial organization may have special lighting to indicate the proper working of machines and electrical equipment. The signage lights also need to work for long periods. Electrical maintenance can ensure timely repairs wherever and whenever required.

Extend the life cycle of different assets:
Poorly maintained electrical equipment and programmable logic controllers may cause additional consumption of power and small glitches may gradually turn into big problems. To prevent excessive wear and tear of organizational assets, preventive electrical maintenance is essential.

Avoid electrical fires caused by defective equipment: This is certainly very significant. Electrical sparks can occur when the circuits are over loaded or when a slightly flawed equipment is forced to operate. Exposed wires and load imbalances can cause excessive heat build up, arcing and explosions. To avoid serious mishaps, it is crucial to get all wiring and equipment checked from time to time by a licensed and experienced electrical contractor.

Attain energy savings: Optimal energy efficiency can be achieved when all machines and equipment are functioning at their best. Timely repair of defective equipment and regular servicing of machines can help an organization to afford maximum energy savings.

Centrim Electric is a well known commercial electrical contractor in NJ and NY that offers electrical installation and maintenance services to commercial, industrial as well as residential customers.

Services of Skilled New Jersey Electrician for Electrical Installations in Hotels
August 19th, 2011    Posted by George Trimarche |  Posted in Uncategorized | No Comments »

Business and leisure tourists traveling to any new city look out for comfortable accommodation. In New Jersey, hotel and guest house services ensure that they have the finest facilities to attract more clients. One of the prime factors that impacts the level of comfort and convenience in a hotel is the installation of necessary electrical equipment.

Along with basic electrical fittings like lighting, fans, room heaters, air conditioners, bathroom geysers, a hotel may also need to install intercoms and advanced fire detection alarm systems. Certain luxury hotels in NJ and NY prefer to install stylish or classic lighting devices in their rooms for aesthetic appeal. It is important to hire skilled and experienced NJ electrician for such services.

Hospitality services operate around the clock, and appropriate maintenance of its electrical installations is essential for any hotel. The NJ electrician hired for electrical installations and maintenance must have the best knowledge of all equipment, wiring, safety devices such as fuses and circuits breakers and the individual electrical devices in different rooms. Only commercial electrical contractors who have the experience of handling large scale projects can be entrusted with such a task.

Hotels typically spend exorbitant amounts on electricity bills. An experienced and efficient NJ electrician can also suggest cost effective lighting products for hotel premises apart from providing quality services for their installation and maintenance.

By using such energy efficient devices, hotel owners or managers can save a lot on their total utility bills without compromising on the aesthetic appeal of rooms and comfort of guests. Hotels can also get occupancy sensors installed by a commercial electrical contractor for a convenient and automatic lighting control.

At the time of a new installation in a hotel or any other commercial building, it is necessary to check the wiring and its capacity to handle the additional load. Any laxity in such works can become a major safety hazard for the hotel and its occupants. Hiring a dedicated NJ electrician on a long term basis is better than calling a new electrical contractor each time new fittings are required. A dedicated commercial electrician would be aware of the existing fittings in a hotel and can safely install new ones.

Centrim Electric is registered with the electrical contractors association and has handled numerous complex electrical projects in NJ and NY. If you are looking for services of commercial electrical contractors for your hotel, your search ends with Centrim Electric. We will ensure the highest standard of quality in your electrical installations and maintenance.

Understanding the Different Devices on an Industrial Switchboard
July 8th, 2011    Posted by George Trimarche |  Posted in Uncategorized | No Comments »

The significance of a switch board in industrial facilities is well understood. An industrial switchboard has numerous devices to regulate the flow of current and to ensure the safe working of electrically operated machines in the industry. The services of an experienced and proficient commercial electrical contractor are integral to the safe installation of an industrial switchboard and for the maintenance or repair of the various devices on the switchboard.

The switchboard frame is the base that houses and supports all other components. The bus bars are conductors that serve as common connection for two or more circuits. The horizontal bus bars are used for the distribution of power to each section of switchboard section. Vertical bus bars distribute power to load devices through the over-current devices. The bus bars may be made of aluminum or copper. Any problem with these devices can result in uneven and unsafe distribution of current in the facility and a licensed commercial electrical contractor must be contacted at the earliest to avoid serious complications or safety hazards.

The circuit protection devices on the industrial electrical switchboard control and stop the flow of current as and when required. The flow of electric current can be immediately stopped in case of a ground fault, over load or short circuit in the wiring or industrial machinery. Fuses, circuit breakers, ground fault circuit interrupters and arc fault circuit interrupters are the typical circuit protection devices used in a switchboard.

Fuses and circuit breakers disconnect the circuit automatically when the current flowing through them exceeds a certain limit. At this time the fuse melts and circuit breaker trips the circuit open. At the time of new electrical installations or during electrical refurbishment in the industrial premises, a commercial electrical contractor installs effective fuses and circuit breakers to ensure the complete protection of all machines and equipment.

A commercial electrical contractor also mounts ground-fault circuit interrupters on switch boards for industrial premises in wet locations, construction sites, and other high-risk areas. These devices can interrupt the flow of electric current in as little as 1/40 of a second to prevent electrocution. The arc-fault devices are also used to protect equipment from the impacts of arc-faults by recognizing the characteristics unique to arcing and by functioning to de-energize the circuit when an arc-fault is detected.

A proficient commercial electrical contractor must be consulted before adding or repairing a device on the switchboard.

Centrim Electric, the reputed commercial and industrial electrical contractor in NJ and NY, offers all services for installation, maintenance and repair of switchboards. We give our customers the most satisfying results on every electrical project that we undertake.

Centrim Electric Tips: Electrical Maintenance
May 18th, 2011    Posted by George Trimarche |  Posted in General News, General Tips, Uncategorized | No Comments »

The availability and proper working of electrical systems in a commercial facility is integral to employee productivity and efficiency. Lighting, air conditioning systems, computer networks, the security set up such as CCTV and fire alarms need to be maintained well with timely repair and replacement as and when required.

Loose wiring, damaged circuit breakers and worn out electrical equipment could be a cause of major safety hazard in the premises. The loose wiring might also cause power fluctuations in the devices or cause them to operate erratically.

Electrical maintenance includes not only the installation of new devices but also the complete testing of all existing equipment and machines. The emergency lighting, signage and power indicator displays must also be checked. If any flaws are discovered, they need to be repaired by proficient and licensed commercial electrical contractor.

The electrical maintenance in a commercial facility is more complex than residential electrical maintenance. The total power consumption in a commercial enterprise being huge, provision for earthing, switch board placement, over current protection and electrical motors installation calls for detailed planning and schematic configuration. Electrical maintenance needs to be in compliance with the latest regulations.

To ensure proper electrical maintenance, all equipment must be checked for signs of:

  • Damage to the cable covering: cuts and abrasion on the cover
  • Damage to the plug: cracks on the casing, bent pins
  • Non standard joints including taped joints in the cable
  • Damage to the outer cover of the equipment or loose parts and screws
  • Burn marks or stains due to over heating

Testing is also an important phase of maintenance. Electrical contractors have to ensure that the complete system is fool proof and the devices perform with complete efficiency for at least the next 15-20 years.

For a commercial facility such a hotel or guest house, electrical maintenance is essential to ensure customer satisfaction. Proper functioning of central heating and cooling systems, lighting, communication and entertainment devices is integral to the operations of an organization that works in the very domain of hospitality.

Centrim Electric understands the significance of electrical maintenance for commercial enterprises. We have a skilled team of licensed electricians with a rich experience of dealing with numerous large scale projects. Contact us for any assistance you need with your electrical systems.

Charging Stations For Electric Cars Along New Jersey’s Highways
March 2nd, 2011    Posted by George Trimarche |  Posted in Alternative Energy, Renewable Energy, Uncategorized | No Comments »

A bill to set up charging stations for electric cars along the state's toll highways cleared a Senate committee 3-2 this February.

With at least 10 all-electric and 10 hybrid models expected to come in the next 2 years, New Jersey is in need of charging stations.

The stations are key to cutting environmental pollution, increasing new electric car models sales, and reducing U.S. foreign-oil dependency.

The estimated cost will be around $6,000 per unit, and the state is trying to figure out from where to get funding. Charging stations are a necessity once that cars are launched, since the operate on batteries and those do run out.

If approved, transit would have a year to build the stations. Some of the propose locations include New Jersey Turnpike, the Garden State Parkway, and the Atlantic City Expressway.

The Green Blog: Staying warm this winter without breaking your pockets and by helping the environment.
February 4th, 2011    Posted by George Trimarche |  Posted in Uncategorized | No Comments »

Some of these tips are very simple to follow and others take more time and effort, but all of them promise big savings.

Turn down the thermostat when leaving the house. Or turn down your heater by 2 degrees and wear a sweater or warm clothes inside the house.

Seal air leaks on exteriors walls, doors, and windows with caulk or weather-stripping. Caulk electrical switches and outlets. If you don’t know how to do this, it’s best to call residential electricians to best serve you

Close fireplace and wood stove dampers when not in use, to prevent air leakage or intrusion.

Seal leaking ducts with mastic sealant or metal tape.

Install plastic film on the inside of windows to improve their efficiency. The film is available at most home improvement stores.

Add insulation to attic, exterior wall, and crawl spaces.

Change furnace filters regularly, preferably once a month.

Close fireplace and wood stove dampers when not in use to prevent air leakage or intrusion.

Install low-flow showerheads and faucet aerators to reduce the amount of hot water used. Also, limit showers to 5 minutes by using an egg timer.

Change incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescents. They are now available in different sizes and styles to match almost any fixture. Also, unplug electronic devices when not in use to avoid “phantom” energy loss. Or, plug a string of such devices into a power strip, and turn it off when the devices aren’t being used.

Replace old appliances with new Energy-Star rated versions. Rebates may be available, and the fixtures will use considerably less energy.

Here, at Centrim Electric we encourage you to implement these tips.

Green Building Blog: Cotton & Denim Jeans and Bamboo Usage for a Green Building
February 10th, 2010    Posted by George Trimarche |  Posted in Uncategorized | No Comments »

Larry Bijou is known as an industry leader developer who creates green buildings. His building, the Garden Street Lofts has been certified as the first “gold” standard residential building in New Jersey by The U.S. Green Building Council (GBC),

Here's why the Loft won the gold standard:

  • Its floors are made with bamboo. Bamboo is easier to find than wood.
  • The sheetrock is made from 99 percent recyclable materials
  • Old cotton and denim jeans make up its insulation

The Lofts has some apartments that sell upwards of two million dollars.

Going green may not be as difficult as it seems given the materials that Larry Bijou used. And it certainly makes room for more "green" (dollars) given the price that those apartments are selling for.

Amazing isn't it?
